Lombard (IL) Installs Lift Equipment on Ambulances

The Lombard Fire Department has installed equipment on five ambulances that officials say will prevent injuries to paramedics.

The power-assisted lifted and loading systems also are designed to keep patients safe. The battery-powered lifting and lowering system can hydraulically lift patients weighing up to 700 pounds by pushing a button.

They are designed to support the power stretcher throughout the ambulance loading and unloading process. The system will mechanically lift and lower the cots into and out of the ambulance reducing the physical load and the risk of isolated and cumulative injuries.
