The Albany (NY) Fire Department was in need of replacing a walk-around rescue truck that had a lot of hard use and was getting worn down.

For this build, the department decided to go from a single rear axle to a dual rear axle to handle the additional equipment it expected to carry as well as improve braking capability.
In 2018, the department took delivery of its newest rescue, a Spartan Gladiator ELFD with a 24” raised roof and Rescue 1 20’ walk-around heavy rescue body.
