El Granada (CA) Opens New Fire Station

The new Coastside Fire Station 41 features three bay drive-thru lanes for fire and emergency vehicles in El Granada, reports Half Moon Bay Review.

The new station replaces a 50-year-old building and has come to fruition after six years of planning and construction. A major asset of the new station is its design for the health and safety of its firefighters. Long ventilation tubes hang down from the ceiling of the large apparatus bay. The dorm-style bedrooms and kitchen are positioned at a safe distance away from the equipment. And there is a second laundry room with a washing machine designed for cleaning the heavy turnout uniforms.

The new station can now hold a total of six apparatus whereas the old station could only fit one engine and a ladder truck. The new station also features a training room. And refueling stations are conveniently positioned at the edge of the property.

In a press release the fire department stated, “This fire station will have a huge impact on the safety of the San Mateo County Coast. It offers increased fire capabilities, more apparatus storage, and more living space for fire personnel in a fire-prone area of San Mateo County.”
