Limestone (IL) Fire Chief Donates Restored Fire Apparatus

Limestone Fire Chief Mike Whalen and his son restored a 1968 International Harvester Alexis engine that family members used while serving on the Limestone Fire Protection District, reports The Daily Journal.

They have donated the engine to the Hall of Flame Museum of Firefighting. The museum has 130 fire engines. This will be its first International fire engine.

During a vacation, Mike had gone to the Plainville (IN) Fire Department to visit the engine. He learned that the department was planning to sell the engine so he offered $500.

Before sending the engine to the museum, Mike made sure to give retired Limestone firefighters and kids in his neighborhood rides. He also had current and retired department members sign the inside of one of the cabinet doors of the engine.

Mike and his wife plan to visit the engine in the near future.
