A multi-million dollar, brand new fire station in Oakley is empty as the fire department can’t afford to staff it, reports CBSN Bay Area.
The East Contra Costa Fire Protection District states that Oakley is partly to blame for the poor service. The fire district is accusing the city of failing to fairly fund the department.
According to the ECCFPD, there are currently only three open fire stations and nine firefighters on duty at a time for an area encompassing 250 square miles and 128,000 residents.
Oakley vice mayor Sue Higgins says the city doesn’t owe any money.
