Fire and police departments are using ultraviolet lights to help sanitize vehicles and to reuse personal protective equipment, reports mlive.com.
The city introduced UV lights to clean cars, trucks and PPE late last week. The CDC believes that the lights help kill germs that live on surfaces. Mount Pleasant hopes adding the UV lights to their cleaning routine will make equipment safer for employees.
Fire and police employees drop off their PPE in sealed bags at a designated police department office set up with UV lights. The process will help Mount Pleasant save money on PPE, since they will be able to reuse PPE five times using the UV light system.
