A federal grant has allowed fire stations in the the Illinois communities of Homewood, Flossmoor, and seven other suburban communities.
The alarm systems are made by US Digital Designs and will wake up firefighters with a softer tone and include visual and vocal cues that are more comprehensive than what is available currently at fire stations.

With the new system, dispatchers can send alerts simultaneously to one or more fire stations in less than a second. Illuminates speakers will be installed in bunk rooms. These alerts are accompanied by message signs throughout the station providing details for the call.
