Haslet (TX) Fire Rescue 2017 Pierce Velocity PUC Platform

Truck 28 was placed into service on March 31, 2018, with Haslet (TX) Fire-Rescue. The cab and chassis are the Velocity model with TAK-4 suspension on the front axle. Seating for 5 is provided as are 2 rear facing EMS compartments on each side of the cab. The cab and body are constructed of aluminum, and Amdor roll-up compartment doors are part of the body package. Stokes boxes are mounted on the catwalks on each side of the body. SCBA bottle storage is located adjacent to the rear wheel wells on both side of the body. The Pierce Command Zone Advanced Electronics and Control System is also featured.

Power is provided by a 525-hp Detroit DD13 engine and an Allison 5th Generation 4500 EVS transmission with six speeds and pushbutton shifter. A Harrison 10-kW generator is mounted in the right front cargo area of the body.

The apparatus has a Pierce PUC single-stage 1,500-gpm pump (mid-ship) and a 400-gallon tank. Foam capabilities are provided by a Husky 3 Foam System and with a 25-gallon cell. Foam is plumbed to the front jump line and the two lower crosslays. The front bumper tray carries 150’ of 1¾-inch hose. Two lower crosslays feature 200’ of 1¾-inch hose, and the upper crosslay features 250’ of 2-inch hose. A deadlay with 300’ of 2½-inch hose is also located in the crosslay compartment. The hosebed carries 600’ of 5-inch LDH and two 100’ “Cleveland” lays of 2-inch hose.

The aerial is a rear-mount 100-foot heavy-duty ladder/platform constructed of steel with a 2,000-gpm aluminum waterway. An Elkhart Scorpion 8294-04 electric monitor and Elkhart ST 195 nozzle are mounted on the platform. The platform also features Lyfe Attachments for ground ladders, the Stokes basket, and other lifting equipment. TechNiq LED (blue) lighting adorns the aerial for nighttime operation. FRC lights adorn the aerial basket along with Whelen M4 warning lights. A complement of Duo-Safety ground ladders (35’ 3-section, 24’ 2-section, two 16’ roof ladders, and a 10’ folding) is stored in the torque box along with a 12’ roof ladder located behind the right boom panel. A Little Giant Model 13 is stored in a right-side compartment. 

The warning lights include two Whelen Freedom IV-Q 21.5 inch light bars on the cab corners with Whelen LED lights (M4, M6, TIR3 and WIONSMC) mounted around the rig exterior. Whelen Model MCFLED2 LED lights are mounted on the upper rear corners at the rear of the truck. Scene lighting includes FRC Spectra SPA260-Q20 lights mounted on both cab and body sides. An FRC Spectra Telescoping Light is mounted on the right rear of the basket. Audio warning devices include a pedestal mounted Federal Signal Q2B and a Whelen Model 295SLSA1 electronic siren module with two Whelen SA315P 100-watt speakers mounted through the front bumper. A Whelen HOWLER provides additional audio warning. The traditional fire bell is mounted on the right front bumper corner.
