Chattanooga (TN) Apartment Fire

The Chattanooga Fire Department worked an apartment fire in Hixson on September 30, 2019, that sent two firefighters to the hospital and left several units damaged.

The call came in at 6:54 PM as a smoke investigation at the Steeplechase Apartments on Cloverdale Circle.

The first-arriving fire companies saw heavy smoke from Hixson Pike and heavy fire coming from backside of one of the apartment buildings.

Chattanooga police officers were helping evacuate the structure as CFD pulled up.

The second alarm fire was extinguished thanks to the hard work of crews on the scene. The blaze caused heavy fire damage to two upper apartments and the roof.

There is smoke and water damage in downstairs units. Two more apartments sustained minor damage.

Fire officials say 4-5 families have been displaced.

No residents were injured.

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital with heat-related injuries.

A dog died in the fire, but firefighters were able to save a snake from one of the apartments.

Hamilton County EMS and Hamilton County Rehab Unit provided support.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
