Truck Hits Collings Lakes (NJ) Fire Apparatus

A pickup truck struck a Collings Lakes Fire Department engine Tuesday afternoon along Route 54 in Buena Borough, injuring one firefighter, authorities said.

A pickup truck with a mechanical failure swerved and struck the fire truck, which was parked by a fire hydrant at the old Library restaurant site, State Police said.

A firefighter who was on the truck’s pump panel, filling the truck from the hydrant, was thrown from the truck on impact and received minor injuries, Collings Lakes Fire Chief Bill Donnelly said.

The fire truck was heavily damaged and is out of service, Donnelly said. Collings Lakes has a second fire engine, and fire companies from Newtonville and Hammonton also will respond to calls.

No further information was available about the pickup truck’s driver.
