Hanover County VA Fire Apparatus Hit on I 95 in Weather Related Accident

Hanover fire crews were working at a crash site on I-95 when a van crashed into the fire truck.

“The fire engine is parked in a safe location and the blocking position which is a position we take to protect the crews on the scene at that time a vehicle struck the fire engine which was quite alarming,” says Hanover Battalion Chief Jason Williams. “We got lucky today. Someone could have been hurt or killed had they been struck by this vehicle. Today the fire engine did its job to protect the crews. It took a hit today but it protected our fire crews and firefighters working on the scene.”

Three Virginia State Troopers were also struck by drivers in the Metro–Richmond area Tuesday.

In 2002, the General Assembly passed the “move over” law. It requires drivers to move over if they see any emergency workers on the roadway.
