Zachary LA Celebrates Arrival of Fire Apparatus

The Zachary Fire Department (LA) celebrated the delivery of a new custom pumper fire truck, companion tools and equipment.

The truck was manufactured by Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc. of Holden (LA) was obtained with $478,562 in federal Community Development Grant Block funds from the state Office of Community Development’s Disaster Recovery Unit for recovery from hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

The new fire truck has both an increased ability to haul water and a more powerful internal pump capacity than the trucks that were used during the Hurricane Gustav response. These features are critical in the remote and unincorporated areas of the city, where there is a greater variance in the spacing of fire hydrants, reduced water resources and hydrant pressures.

The truck also has on-board computerized safety features to protect first responders while en route to calls in any given area and serves to reinforce safety practices once on site.

The Disaster Recovery Unit within the Office of Community Development is dedicated to helping Louisiana’s citizens recover from hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike. As the state’s central point for hurricane recovery, the OCD-DRU manages the most extensive rebuilding effort in American history, working closely with local, state and federal partners to ensure that Louisiana recovers safer and stronger than before.
