Sperian’s Warrior SCBA
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has awarded a major contract for nearly 600 self-contained breathing apparatus to Sperian Fire through its exclusive south Florida distributor, Safety Solutions International.
The award is believed to be the largest of its kind in Florida in 2009, according to Sperian, which recently won a contract from the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 4,000 Warrior SCBA.
The Palm Beach County contract calls for Sperian to provide 585 Warrior SCBA, 1,750 cylinders and 1,400 facepieces, as well as rapid intervention team (RIT) kits and related equipment. The Palm Beach County units will also be equipped with the new Sperian Digital Dashboard heads-up display (HUD).
The company said its Digital Dashboard is a reliable, easy-to-read, hard-wired HUD that provides firefighters with continuous LCD illustration of critical air management information, including cylinder air volume, air time remaining displayed in minutes and percentage of air remaining in the cylinder.
“What is so great about the Digital Dashboard is the fact that it tucks nicely in the facepiece, does not obstruct the view of the user and provides reliable, real-time SCBA information,” said Sperian Warrior Product Manager Jeff Shipley.
Troy Cool, a vice president at Safety Solutions and a firefighter, said the Palm Beach County evaluation team was impressed with the Warrior’s ergonomic design. “It’s comfortable, adds maneuverability and really reduces back stress,” he said.
Sperian Fire, a division of Sperian Protection, manufactures respiratory gear, protective apparel and instrumentation for firefighting and emergency services.
