Would You Like to Write For Us?

  AUTHORS’ GUIDELINES:

Thank you for your interest in writing for Fire Apparatus and Emergency Equipment

Our focus is precisely what the name suggests. We publish the only monthly magazine devoted exclusively to the trucks, tools, equipment, and gear firefighters and emergency medical and rescue crews use.

Most of our authors and photographers work or have backgrounds in emergency services or are associated with companies in the industry. We will consider unsolicited material, but it is best to query us if you have an idea before you start writing.

The length of a feature story depends on the subject and how well it is reported and written. Accuracy is paramount, and since our stories and columns can get quite technical, clarity is very important. If a story is compelling enough to hold the attention of our editors–and readers–it can run up to 2,000 words. Columns by our regular contributors are in the range of 1,000 to 1,500 words. Send submissions written in Microsoft Word by e-mail as attachments. We pay on publication and retain the copyright.

Most of our features and columns are illustrated with photos and graphics. Photos should be high-resolution, generally 300 dpi (dots per inch) with a minimum requirement of 266 dpi at 9.75 inches wide. Photos embedded in electronic documents are not acceptable, and images taken from Web sites are also not acceptable because they seldom have sufficient resolution and are often protected by copyrights.

We are always looking for photos of apparatus or equipment in action for covers and interior shots. Photographers should provide as much information as possible about the incident. Only original, exclusive photos will be considered for publication.

E-mail submissions to news@firemagazine.com. Please include complete contact information–name, address, home and work phone numbers, e-mail address. Also please include your bio.

We also welcome Letters to the Editor, news tips, new deliveries, and ideas for columns and stories.
