Cooling Vests Keep First Responders Safe

The new PhaseCore line of CarbonX FR Cooling Vests substantially lowers the risks of injury or death to firefighters and other first responders, according to its manufacturers.

The companies – First Line Technology, LLC and CarbonX Non Flammable Fabrics (a product of Chapman Innovations) – joined together to produce what they describe as the future of firefighting cooling apparel.

PhaseCore, an environmentally friendly phase change material (PCM), cools, and CarbonX, a non-flammable fabric, protects users from burn-related injuries, the companies said.

Based on patented blends of oxidized fibers, clothing and equipment made of the CarbonX material is able to withstand the direct flame of a blowtorch without melting, igniting or burning.

The gentle cooling effect of Phase Core has a proven track record of increasing worker productivity while reducing heat-related illness, according to the manufacturers.

The lightweight vest designs – SWEDE and Standard – are effective for up to 4 hours and are recharged at room temperature without ice, water or refrigeration.

Since 2003, First Line Technology LLC has created high-quality products that are comfortable, effective and safe in an All Hazards response.

Founded in the late 1990s, Salt Lake City based Chapman Innovations develops, produces, and markets thermal fabric solutions primarily under the company's flagship brand, CarbonX.
