Rescue Ride’s wheeled device
Rescue Ride Systems has developed a new-patented wheeled rescue device for moving a downed firefighter.
The device unfolds and clamps to the cylinder of an SCBA. The injured firefighter can then be pulled out on wheels, reducing the friction of dragging.
The device weighs about three pounds, is heat resistant and is small enough to fit into most pockets of bunker pants, according to the company’s founder, Joe Noonchester, an assistant fire chief in Washington state.
He said the product can save valuable time because it is in a firefighter’s gear, allowing the rescue to begin quickly. It also allows rescuers to conserve their air, he said, since they won’t have to work as hard.
