Lafourche Sheriff Office Receives Rescue Unit

The Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department has donated a late 1980s rescue unit to the Lafourche Sheriff's Office. This donation has saved the office from purchasing a vehicle that could cost between $250,000 and $300,000.

Although investigators with the Sheriff's Office had been looking into purchasing a vehicle like this, it wasn't financially feasible, said Detective Robert Mason, who will be maintaining the vehicle. The most convenient thing it offers is the amount of storage space.

A small boat is mounted on top of the truck, and shelves and safes in the truck store tools detectives often use to get ballistics information, fingerprints, footprints, fibers, drug traces and other evidence.
